About Tennessee Valley Barndominiums
Tennessee Valley Barndominiums is operated by Compass Camper LLC, an Oregon-registered marketing company doing business as Compass Lead Group. We are not a contractor and we do not perform construction, design, or building work. What we do is simpler: we help Tennessee landowners and future owners get honest answers about barndominium projects, then connect them with independent licensed Tennessee builders.
How the service works
We operate this website to connect people planning barndominium and post-frame home projects across Tennessee with independent licensed builders. When you submit a builder quote request, your information is forwarded to a licensed builder who works your part of the state, and that builder contacts you directly to talk through the project. You compare, you negotiate, and you contract directly with the builder. The service is free for you; our compensation is described on the How We Make Money page.
What we ask of every builder
Every builder we connect landowners with is asked to meet objective, checkable requirements:
- Hold a current Tennessee contractor license appropriate to the project size. Tennessee requires a license before bidding on any project of $25,000 or more, and the limited BC-A/r license caps at $125,000 per project, so full builds call for a full BC-A license.
- Carry current general liability insurance.
- Offer written workmanship warranties on completed work.
- Provide transparent, itemized written estimates before performing any work.
These are requirements we ask builders to confirm, not endorsements. We encourage you to verify any builder's license and its monetary limit yourself on the state's official lookup at verify.tn.gov, and our pages show you how.
Why the site reads the way it does
Barndominium marketing tends to skip the unglamorous parts: whether the county requires a permit, whether the lot can pass a septic evaluation, and whether the loan will appraise. Those are the questions that stall real projects, so they are the questions this site answers first. If a page here talks you out of a build that would not have worked, the site did its job.
